I became interested in early forms of binary coding technology following a visit to the lace archive at Nottingham Trent University. In this series of etchings, I reference the textile jacquard cards, grid systems and technical drawings used in the nineteenth century lace manufacturing industry.

Alongside this research, I had also been considering the legacy of early binary coding systems through an exploration of Cyber Culture Theory. The ‘Constellations of Data’ title was taken from William Gibson’s ‘Neuromancers’ 1984, a science fiction novel that foretold many of today’s digital innovations.
